DMETRO "FRED" DENISCHUK

Mr. Dmetro “Fred” Denischuk of Yorkton, beloved husband of Elsie Denischuk passed away peacefully on January 30, 2012 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre ICU Unit after a brief struggle with heart disease. Fred was born August 12, 1922 at Morweena, west of Arborg MB. to William and Ahafia (Hawryluk). Fred was the youngest of seven children. In 1929 the family moved to the Holar District south of Elfros, Saskatchewan. Fred completed grade eight at Lily White School. He stayed farming for a few years in Elfros, then went to work in Toronto. Fred returned to Saskatchewan in 1947 and purchased one quarter of land 1 mile south of Yorkton known as the York Lake School District where he served as secretary for a few years. On July 24, 1949 Fred married Elsie Uhryn at St. Mary’s Church in Yorkton. They built a new house on this family farm where they raised their three children, Gene, Denis, and Darlene. In the 1960’s Fred worked for the City of Yorkton Parks Department. Then he took on a job as a truck delivery driver for Scott National. In 1968 Fred became the janitor of the new St. Paul’s School in Yorkton where he worked until his retirement in 1987. In 1986 Fred and Elsie purchased their retirement home on 9 Crestwood Crescent in Yorkton. In October of 2010 Fred and Elsie moved into a suite in the Gladstone Senior’s Residence in Yorkton. The Ukrainian Catholic Church was an important part of Fred’s life. They volunteered many hours of time, for free, to St. Mary’s Cultural Centre to help pay off the debt, working at weddings and various functions. Fred was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood, life time member of Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Fred enjoyed playing cards, crib and socializing with friends and enjoyed his evenings at the Casino. Fred was a respected, hard working man and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Fred was predeceased by his parents William and Ahafia, brothers Harry, John, Mike, Peter, and a sister Anne. Fred will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Elsie, sons Gene (Betty), Denis and his son Ron, daughter Darlene (Joe) Coulic and their children Amanda (Jeremy), Allison (Ryan), Andy, and Fred’s brother Father Joseph Denischuk, C.Ss.R. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Prayers were held on Thursday, February 2 at the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home in Yorkton. The Holy Rosary led by Knights of Columbus, Father Delaere Council preceded the prayers. Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Friday, February 3 at St. Mary‚s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton with Rev. Father Ray Lukie, C.Ss.R. as the main Celebrant. Great Uncle Loyal

Jeremy's mom took us to see her Uncle Loyal in Saskatoon yesterday, he is the history buff on their side of the family.

He sent me home with binders of family tree information and 10 CDs with over 2800 pictures on it.

I will be sifting through this stuff for a while. Very exciting.
